About Jwala Ji Temple

Jwala Ji Temple, also known as Jwalamukhi Temple, is one of the most revered Shakti Peethas in India. Located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Jwalamukhi, the deity of flaming mouth. What makes this temple unique is the eternal flame that burns through natural gas jets emerging from the rock sanctum.

According to Hindu mythology, this is the place where the tongue of Sati (Lord Shiva's consort) fell when Lord Vishnu cut her body into 51 pieces to stop Lord Shiva's tandava (dance of destruction). The temple has a rich history, with many rulers including Akbar the Great and Maharaja Ranjit Singh having paid homage here. The temple architecture features a dome covered with gold plates donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
